A star performance by Kyf Brewer and Orlagh Cassidy should push this audiobook to the top of every thriller fan's must list. As a result of being hit on the head, Amos Decker, portrayed by Brewer, can remember everything that ever happened to him, complete with emotions. Brewer owns Decker's intensity. He gives the character great focus and a steely resolve to find out whether the late Meryl Hawkins, a man he convicted of murdering four people 13 years earlier, was truly guilty. Cassidy tackles every female character with precision and care. Her take on Mary Lancaster, Decker's former partner, showcases her abilities with the pregnant pause and perfect pacing. Together they create a presentation second to none and provide supercharged entertainment. E.E.S. Duo Kyf Brewer and Orlagh Cassidy return in the fifth Memory Man novel. Thirteen years ago, rookie detective Amos Decker put away family man Meryl Hawkins for the deaths of four people, in what he believed was a slam dunk case. When the terminally ill Hawkins asks Decker to take another look, he quickly realizes that the real murderer is still out there. This material would be tricky in the hands of less capable readers; the sheer number of characters alone would be a challenge. Brewer and Cassidy smoothly navigate dialogue and rapid character changes with barely a hitch. Cassidy has great versatility in her characters, although her decision to portray one of the crime scene technicians as rather ditzy is quite unfortunate. Brewer, on the other hand, is consistently spot on in his portrayals. Overall, a solid listen for both longtime readers of the Decker novels or who are new to the series.
